Star Wars (A New Hope) is one of the best, if not the best written, most beautifully made pieces of cinema in movie history. The film features some of the best written characters and uses some of the best plot devices in the history of film. | If you, for some reason which I may or may not judge you for, have not seen Star Wars (1977), I will relay the story into a synopsis. No spoilers I promise. If you don't want to read this inserted synopsis, continue to where the next vertical line is and continue on past there for the rest of my Twitter Exclusive.

STAR WARS takes place a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away where an intergalactic civil war has broken out. The Galactic Empire, ruled by Emperor Palpatine (formerly Sith lord Darth Sideous) and his apprentice Darth Vader, has controlled the galaxy for roughly 20 years. They have disassembled the Senate and the remnants of the Old Republic. People live in poverty, crime and oppression. The Rebel Alliance has stolen plans belonging to the Empire for a super weapon called the DEATH STAR, which has the capability to destroy entire planets. Darth Vader effectively captures Princess Leia Organa of Alderaan and kills her crew looking for the stolen plans. The plans are hidden away within franchise mainstay R2-D2, a droid and his audible counterpart C-3PO. The two droids were jettisoned to the desert planet below, Tatooine, where the entire first act of our story takes place. The two droids come to be in the service of a moisture farmer named Owen Lars and his adopted son (belonging to his step-brother) LUKE SKYWALKER. Luke uncovers a distress message from Leia asking for the help of one Obi-Wan Kenobi. Luke doesn't know any Obi-Wan, but he knows a about an old hermit named BEN KENOBI (same person). R2 goes out to find Kenobi and his chased by Luke & C-3PO, only to be ambushed by sand people and saved by Ben Kenobi. When Ben gets the message, he gives Luke his father's lightsaber and tells him about his time as a Jedi Knight in the Old Republic, and the death of Luke's father, Anakin, who was also a Jedi Knight. Ben then offers to train Luke and for him to accompany Ben to Alderaan, to find and save Leia. Luke denies his offer, but later, after a spoilerific tragedy, agrees and they travel to the city of Mos Eisely. There they meet HAN SOLO and CHEWBACCA, space smugglers who will take them to Alderaan, for a price. Meanwhile, on the Death Star, Vader's attempts to torture Leia into revealing where the Rebel base is, as they no longer need the plans as the Death Star is fully operational. Vader's general, Tarkin, destroys Leia's home planet, Alderaan, after she revals Tatooine is the planet holding the base (which is a lie). Han, Chewy, Ben, Luke, & the droids fly to where Alderaan was only to find the Death Star. Act 2 opens with the gang infiltrating the Death Star and saving Leia. They return to the Rebel Base on Yavin 4 and reveal the plans. Luke flys with the X-Wing Red Squadron to destroy the Death Star. Vader attempts to stop them, but is shot into deep space by Han Solo and the Millenium Falcon. Luke destroys the Death Star and they all lived happily ever after... until The Empire Strikes Back. | Twitter Exclusive begins here.

Luke Skywalker goes through the best character arc in history, more so seen in the sequels, but his personal journey in this one is awesome, going from whiny farmer, to Jedi-in-training, to War Hero. Han Solo is the coolest character to have ever been created. Harrison Ford brings the character to life in an excellent way. Han is a smuggler with a greedy moral compass that soons becomes rather clean at the end of the film. Aside from those two characters as they are written, the actors who bring them to life are fantastic & execute these characters brilliantly. Aside from Luke & Han, Star Wars creates the greatest female character of all time: Princess Leia Organa. She's capable & a strong heroine. Darth Vader is the most threatening and scary villain ever, well voiced by James Earl Jones, & a terrifying opponent. He killed his own men (and a flipping JEDI MASTER!!) Just because they didn't believe in the Force. His weapon, the Death Star, is the most terrifying weapon in film history. Finally, the characters, supporting & main, blend and mesh together so well that the film is elevated by each performance. An all around excellent film.
